Prepping your home for colder weather doesn't have to be a daunting task. In fact, we have a list of five fast tips you can knock out over the weekend. Trust us: You'll feel great once you have these items checked off your to-do list.
Clean out your gutters
With leaves falling all autumn, chances are your gutters need a fresh cleanout before winter moisture and weather hits. You don't want water to back up and freeze, potentially running into your home and causing damage.
Store away your hose and drain outdoor faucets
Drain any excess water out of your hose and other outdoor faucets to avoid stagnant water freezing. This is also a great opportunity to store away any outdoor furniture or lawn decor that you don't want to be affected by winter weather.
Check your trees
If there are any damaged or precarious branches, now is the time to remove them. Since heavy snow and ice can lead to fallen limbs, pay especially close attention to trees near you or your neighbor's house.
Check your heating system
Now's the time to have your heating system serviced to check for any issues or inefficiencies. Don't forget to stock up on firewood if you use a fireplace or wood stove.
Review the exterior of your home
Look for any cracks or holes that may need to be sealed or fixed. Not only could the damage get worse with colder weather, but they may represent areas of your home where water or critters could get in. This is also a great time to check your shutters for any warping or damage.
Once that's all taken care of, just settle in and stay warm! Spring will be here before you know it. Need new shutters this season?
